Established in 1989, Ankara University Electronics Engineering Department has achieved an impressive progress. The department employs 1 professors, 2 associate professor, 6 assistant professors, 10 research assistants and 7 lecturers as part-time staff. About 70 undergraduate and 30 graduate students are accepted in every academic year.

Some of the major research activities are in digital signal processing, control systems, optoelectronics and communications. In particular speech processing, image and video signal processing, data transmission, coding techniques, free space optical communications, biomedical instrumentation and medical imaging. The department has many laboratory facilities including 11 different laboratories and computing facilities including powerful workstations and many personal computers with high speed internet access.

Since the purpose of the Department of Electronics Engineering is to provide professional training, and at the same time to participate actively in applied and theoretical research, it is necessary for students to acquire knowledge of basic sciences, such as mathematics, physics and chemistry together with an understanding of economics, social sciences and humanities before specialization takes place.

During undergraduate education period students are expected to spend a minimum of 40 working days in industry over two consecutive summers. Young electronic engineers graduated from the department are able to find jobs in the areas of academy, IT, defence industries, communication companies, computer sciences and biomedical enginnering related jobs.

The department has a long going tradition of participation in Socrates/Erasmus exchanges both for undergradute and post graduate students, as well as the exchange of teaching staff. In addition the department is willing to make international contacts with other universities, companies and research institutes from all over the world. Please contact directly to the Head of the Department, Associate Professor Ziya Telatar, for more information at telatar@eng.ankara.edu.tr.
